David: Online project manager
David was a Childnet Award
winner in 2001 with an e-mail project called Superhighway
Patrol. At that time
he was a police officer in the UK where he was
involved in a number of partnership projects with
education and young people in trouble, as well
as being engaged in operational policing in a
number of different areas. He has also trained as
a trainer and been involved in the delivery of training
in a number of capacities.
Outside of his work he trained as a youth worker
and has been involved as a youth work practitioner
in
both the voluntary and statutory sectors. Communication
generally and the use of technology in communication
has always been a great interest
of his, but it is the use of the technology in a
way that ordinary people can relate to that his
key interest and area of skill. Net-Detectives is
one of the projects he is responsible for which gives
both adults and young people the opportunity to work
with each other on equal terms and to learn from
each other about our communities and the way in which
they work and we can all make a contribution to it.
Particular areas of skill - problem solving, working
alongside
people in idea development and support
and technological solutions to communications issues.

Will: Online chat safety expert
Will is the Research and Policy Manager at
Childnet International. He runs the Chatdanger website, a website designed to inform parents
and children about the potential dangers of Chat
and
advise on how to keep safe while chatting. He
also represents Childnet on several of the sub-groups
of the Home Office Task Force for Internet Safety,
and has been particularly involved in the new
'Grooming'
legislation and the good practice guidance for
the Internet industry relating to Chat, IM and
web-based services. Will also coordinates 2 EC-funded
research projects looking at the protection of
children from sexual exploitation on the Internet.

Sarah: Online editor
Sarah is a primary
trained teacher. She taught in Japan for
a year, and almost three years in London. For
the
last three
years she has worked as the ICT Online Editor for
Te Kete Ipurangi – The Online Learning Centre www.tki.org.nz/e/ict.
Her job involves locating, cataloguing, and promoting
useful sites for teachers
and students that involve ICT in teaching and learning.
She uses Dreamweaver in her work to publish information
online, and has experience with planning and
developing websites and online resources. Through
this she has knowledge of the issues of privacy
and copyright relating to publishing on the web,
as well
as an awareness of web design features and content
considerations that contribute to successful websites.
She is particularly interested in how the web can
enable different and exciting ways of learning, especially
through video, interactives, and online communication.
Lately she has become familiar with Photoshop, Paint
Shop
Pro, iMovie, and Movie Maker software, as she has
been having great fun making digital stories using
still
illustrations, voiceover, and sound effects.
