and the individual winning projects, Childnet hopes to

Gaelscoil Wins International Award
Gaelscoil O' Dohair in Newcastlewest, Co Limerick has
emerged as a winner in the 'Schools Category' at the annual
Childnet Academy awards in London. The Co Limerick school,
which was actively involved in a SIP project in 1999-2000,
was one of 250 entries from 40 countries.
Childnet International is a non-profit organisation which
“seeks to make the Internet a great place for children”
and their annual competition garners much attention worldwide.
To enter the competition, students or schools must have
developed a great website (or have an idea for a website)
which really benefits other young people worldwide. Gaelscoil
O'Dohair’s winning website (www.gaelscoil.com)
uses Internet technologies to retell the stories of mythical
characters from Gaelic lore and ultra modern female warriors.
As part of their prize, one student and one teacher from
Gaelscoil O'Dohair will attend the week-long Childnet Academy
in London later this year where specialist web support,
leadership training and technical advice will be provided
to a group of the best young web developers from around
the world.
