Hubert, Canada |

Dale Hubert is
a teacher from Ontario, Canada who taught himself
website design in order to develop a creative
international online project based around Stanley
- a character from the famous children’s
book by Jeff Brown who was flattened by a falling
billboard. Through the website, over 14,000
children are sending Flat Stanleys to each
other and are engaging in creative writing
and communication. This simple idea is leading
to tangible off-line benefits, for example,
Stanleys are now being sent to leprosy patients
in Brazil along with hundreds of books, which
the children donated.

| Comment from judges |
| Sometimes simple ideas are the most effective and this project shows how the Internet can bring an offline idea to real life and worldwide attention. As well as helping children gain a global perspective, the project helps develop children's research and communication skills. |
